I've lived in the Minneapolis area for about 8 years now. Married Minnesotan Duane Paulson in 2000. What can I say? It took me 35 years to find someone who didn't mind my inability to cook, clean, and dress like a lady.

Duane has two awesome kids -- Nick, a senior at Univ. of Minnesota majoring in biochem; and Maggie, a senior in high school.

After Churchill ... University of Michigan (econ), Univ. of Texas (MBA), Wheel of Fortune (won the bonus round), Ultimate Frisbee (a few national and world championships), and 12 years in the Boston area with EH Publishing.

EH is a publishing company focused on "smart home" technology. I co-founded that in 1994 and spend a lot of time writing and pretending to understand the stuff I write about.

Some of our publications/events:

Looking forward to meeting up with you guys in June.

Julie, I just heard about the reunion today from Dave Cocke. Glad to see there's interest in getting together. I hope you're enjoying that Minnesota winter. It's not much better here in Denver.

Congrats on the hubby and kids! I got two kids the old-fashioned way. Hopefully I'll see you in SA for the reunion. I need to make sure my social calendar isn't booked that weekend!

I'm at davidkriese@yahoo.com.

Moved back to San Antonio in 1998 and married in 1999. I have two boys, ages 7 and 4 and they are more than enough.

My wife Cheryl grew up on Cape Cod and has primarily lived on the East Coast and Midwest before we met in Houston in 1997.

I did my undergrad at St. Mary's and have been traveling ever since with my career. I am currently in management with a chemical manufacturer and been in the industry for about 15 years.

Still see a good number of our class being in SA and even with my travels, I get to have mini-reunions fairly regularly.

Just last month, I had lunch in Dallas with Mike Martin, Kenny Linton and Dwayne Baker. All are doing well and seem to be looking forward to the 25th.

Thanks for putting this together Julie! Hopefully, this will help generate more interest in the 25th.

Okay -- here is the "skinny" on me....I still look the same...tall, skinny and dorky but have added a nice beer gut to compliment the rest of my body. I was fortunate and after years of "playing the field" I married up to a beautiful woman both inside and out. I have 2 fabulous children -- a daughter who turns 10 in July and a son who turns 7 in April.

Out of school I obtained my CPA but gave up accounting in 1990 to go into sales. I currently work for a money management firm out of California and raise capital for their management.

I stay active by running, biking and playing tennis. I currently captain a USTA tennis team that won City Championship Fall of 2007. Turns out, I ran into Kenny Linton up here in the Dallas area and he plays for my team as well.

I also stay in contact with Brent Yarbrough who also lives in Dallas. I have recetnly connected with Mike Martin and Robert Garza who also live up here. In San Antonio I stay in touch with Kevin Gallivan and Robert Stocker. Robert is kind to me and always takes me out for dinner or drinks when traveling through Dallas on his job.

I decided to take charge of coordinating a 25th reunion, as I was highly dissappointed in the turnout for our 20th. I realized cost was a factor for some, and the reunion committee that was hired added little value. I decided we could do this on our own, keep the costs down, and hopefully increase overall participation.

For those who might be wavering whether or not to come ---get over it and come !!! We don't care if you gained weight, lost hair, turned gray, etc., etc. It is a blessing to be alive and enjoy the friendships you have in life. I had so much fun at our 10 year visitng with everone. There was no longer the high school "social barriers" (jocks, socials, roaches, kickers, brains, etc.) and it was a blast just visiting with everyone you had known.

I encourage you all to come, kick back, drink a margy or three, have fun, catch up on old acquaintences, and make new friendships. Don't miss out on a priceless time.

Can't wait to see you all in June!!!

Hi all! Julie (reeves) Campbell here. Married 8 1/2 years to a great guy, Drew who always makes me laugh. Have 3 crazy healthy children Andrew 5, Lachlan 3 1/2 and Evie 1 1/2. Life is pretty kooky here most of the time. We live in Maplewood NJ about 45 mins. from NYC.
Prior to my life as a mom and after WC-Holy Cross (BA) in Worcester, MA; then San Diego, Chicago, Seattle-pursuing the acting life; UW- Seattle (MFA in Acting), then to the NYC area in Hoboken, NJ where I met my hubby. Started a theater company in NYC (spoontheater.org), some indie film, teeny soap stuff and voiceovers. Left the NYC area after watching one of the planes come down the river and hit the Trade Center on 9/11. Still haunting.
Also a personal trainer and Yoga teacher--parenting is the most intense form of yoga one will ever do--And my most recent acting jobs are giving dialects to the farm animals in my kids books.
I am so thrilled to be coming to the 25th--cannot wait to reconnect with so many and have some Texas food--I have so many wonderful memories. Lets share some laughs--God knows we all need as much of that as we can get.
Give me a jingle at campbellsfive@verizon.net.

The last reunion i made was the 10 year. Since then my wife (of 18 years) and I moved from Austin to East Texas to be closer to her family. I own a production company, and my work has shifted from motion pictures to underwater television and video. My specialty is in deep technical diving exploration and expeditions. If you watch Discovery's Military Channel, you may have seen me and my work on a show called "Quest For Sunken Warships." What a blast that show was to make!!

I love my work, but my passion is with horses. Lori and I have a small herd of 8 horses that live with us and allow us to ride and play with them almost every day.

To follow my work, see pics of our horses, or contact me go to any of these sites:

I may have to be on the Outer Banks of NC in June, but I'm going to do everything i can to make the reunion! David

After graduating from A&M I had a decade long career in porn, both in front of and behind the camera (where , as you probably know, I was hailed by Ron Jeremy as an innovator; and Rolling Stone said “Mike Martin has brought 70’s quality back to the porn industry”) I wasn't just in it for the money however, with most of my films I tried to bring an acute awareness of the harsh realities of suburban life for the well endowed young starlet. Overall I either starred in or produced over 750 films (we call them films), complete with titles such as Obedient Slaves of the Wild West (#1 & 2), Agony of Love, Lace & Lash, Tokyo Dreams #7 and my own personal favorite, one that I wrote while thinking of Don Crook, Wee Willy's Winky.

After a decade in the limelight, I decided that it was time to settle down and get married. I married a great girl from Dallas...please don't bring up the porn stuff with her. She likes to act like it never happened.
I have been in the call center industry for 15 years or so. I run a brokerage comapny that has products that help call centers run more efficiently.

Sandra and the kids are great. Most of my sores stay in remission, so we are pretty happy. I make it to the occasional convention, but it’s just not like the old days. Now everyone is popping Cialus and Viagra all the time and the integrity of the work has suffered. I’m sorry, I’m venting. This is supposed to be a happy time!

I have 2 kids, a 13 year old boy, who beat Steve Oines in arm wrestling last time we were together, and an 11 year old daughter who is brilliant and very creative (I'm not sure if I'm really the father)

Let's get this blog going! I'm dying to know what everyone has beenn up to.

Unknown said...

Hello fellow Chargers! This is Eva Smith trying to recover from the laughing fit I fell into after reading the blog entries! Mike Martin, I do indeed remember Robby and I droping you off on your door step. Oh my!

I'm here in the Dallas area working for a commerical real estate firm (Jones Lang LaSalle)similar to Dan Pollard. I haven't done a great job of staying in touch with high school friends (Judy I know you are rolling your eyes at me!).

After college, I moved to FL for work. The moves kept coming after that including NC, SC, OH and finally back to TX. I've been back in the Lone Star state for 6 years now.

My Dad (still in SAT) manages to send me information on everyone that makes the San Antonio paper. Seems the majority of my older brothers run into some of you as well since they give me a hard time on family email about not staying in touch with high school friends.

Julie and Julie, you both crack me up with your updates. Good for you both! Looking forward to seeing you all later this year.

Wow what an impressive group of people. Just wanted to post a quick comment to say how much I'm looking forward to seeing everyone, although I must admit I don't think I knew many of the current posters personally. Hope we have a good turn out. After graduating, I had a succesfull career in printing for 20 years but now find myself owning General Contracting Business, specialinzing in commercial remodels and new construction, not even sure how I got into that just sort of happend overnight! I can't even hang a picture straight...I'm married to a wonderful guy and we have one daughter, a junior in high school and by the grace of god sems to love school much more than her mother did, or at least the scholastic part of it. I went to socialize, she does both. Anyway would love to hear from anyone who remembers me and again, looking forward to seeing everyone.

I live in Washington State with my wife (Lysa) of eleven years, and my two sons, Ezekiel and Luke.

After Chrurchill, I got my BS in Econ and JD in Law from University of Washington. I was a court clerk and then a public defender for seven years before deciding I was not that wild about law... I returned to Texas to get a masters in rehabilitation counseling at UTSW and a Psy.D. in clinical psych from Baylor. I am back at UW now as clinical faculty. I currently practice as a forensic psychologist and I supervise interns and post-docs at Western State Hospital.

The family is into the outdoors, where we enjoy hiking, climbing, skiing, sailing, and kayaking. Pics of our fun can be seen at www.pbase.com/jbogdan

Hi Julie :-) Yes I have a last name...Ward. Technically I am not a "graduate" as I crashed my motorcycle and missed much of the eleventh grade and then left after the eleventh grade to attend Trinity University... but having been with the class from 6th grade at Eisenhower, I still kind of think of myself as class of 83... I hung out more with folks from the classes above and below us, so I am not sure any but my neighborhood friends like Karen Brumley would recognize the name...

Barry,

Those pictures of Italy are sweet! Why did the pretty red headed lady let you take so many pictures of her?? Were you stalking her??

Anonymous said...

Hi everyone. This is Anne White. It's so nice to hear about all of you.

After Churchill, I attended Trinity University in SA for a year (Barry, I remember it well. Had the greatest roommate in Stephanie Wissinger (what is she up to now?). I graduated from American University in DC, where I lived for 10 years. I actually had a couple of random encounters with some WC grads in DC - ran into Anna Hoffman and her mom at the Smithsonian, and Micah Wells at a restaurant. Jim Stedman ('80) and his wife lived there for a while, and Mary Ann Stutts spent a summer there, too.

I spent several years working at American, then in hospitality/resort management. I am now in the Human Resource Outsourcing field (what's that?? is the typical response - we work with global companies to build standard HR technology and processes across their organizations).

I live just outside of Jacksonville, Florida, with my two children, Eric (12) and Emily (10). We're not too far from Orlando, so if anyone plans a visit in the area, please let me know.

Unfortunately, I have not been very good at keeping in touch (as Helen (Lopez) Kiest will be the first to tell you, but I was in SA last March, and was able to join Helen for a night out with Doris, Carol, Diana, Rose and Gina, which was great fun.

Thanks very much to everyone who is a part of putting the reunion together, and Julie, thanks for setting up the blog.

Looking forward to June!

Anonymous said...

Wow...it is fun seeing everyone's info! This is Karen Brumley (Horan), and yes, Barry, I know you are remembered by more than the neighborhood gang.

Bill and I moved back to SA almost 4 years ago after a time in Houston and Dallas. It has been good being back and fun seeing Helen, Doris, Rose, etc every month. We will be moving to New Braunfels this summer after my youngest graduates high school...man I am getting old! My oldest is a freshman at Univ of Vermont. I will try to email Julie some updated pictures.

After HS I graduated from UNT and started teaching English and Dance in High School for 6 years then Middle school for 4 years. Then life changed a little and I worked for a church as Christian Educator. I started seminary at SMU a couple of years later and now I am the founding pastor of Gruene UMC just north of New Braunfels...this is the third church I have served. You can see some of what I do now at www.Grueneumc.org We are working on the website right now...so it might be a bit rough.

Now that your jaw is off the floor, it is really fun being a pastor and being a church planter is awesome. Not to mention I get to do really cool things like weddings for friends! (just ask Helen and Doris!)

OK, enough for now...I can't wait to see everyone in June.

I just got the message that our
class was having a 25 year reunion-
I havent seen most of my classmates
since I graduated, although, I did
keep up with Chuck Ivy, and yes, he
was a fire chief last I heard. Saw Greg Rodgers at my Dads funeral seven years ago, and he was
a firefighter as well. I am Lorrie
Eichholz (Matter) and I have been
married for almost 25 years to Larry, who farms and ranches on our place in Comfort. I have been
doing hair for nearly as long as I
have been out of school. Love it and plan on doing it for as long
as my feet will hold up! We have
no kids, but have pets out the kazoo. I keep busy with showing my
horse, and hunting and fishing when
in season... It was interesting hearing from my class and yes, I still think about Tomy Maur and how brave he was back then.
God Bless You All!

Robert Stocker said...

Lorrie...good to hear from you.

I still remember you Dad not being to happy with me as a kid in Hollywood Park. I believe he was the fire cheif when Tim Gallagher and I were up to no good in Hollywood Park.

The good ole Coker Elementay days...which occasionally come back to me in flashbacks!

Robert Stocker said...

TK...good to hear you chime in as well...post some pics because if you don't, I will be forced to go through my extensive library and post some choice ones.

Hope all is well with you and looking forward to catching up at the 25th

TK said...

RS,

I will try, but give it your best shot. I would be interested to see what you have.

Anonymous said...

Robert, I can't imagine you or Tim doing anything bad. (Ha!) Dad was
sort of everyones Father... He put
a lot of discipline into the young
guys interested in becoming firefighters-most of them have turned out well and thanked him later...I still miss him very much!
Coker Elementery School-I remember
stealing packets of ketchup and
mustard from the lunchroom and putting them under the bus tires to watch them explode- What we did
for entertainment before computers in school!

Anonymous said...

Oh, and Robert, do you remember when Tim wore sports jackets to
school and wanted to be Elvis?

Robert Stocker said...

Remember Tim and Elvis!! I had to watch Elvis-Aloha from Hawaii at his house one night when my mom needed a break from us.

Don't forget the milk that we used to put under the bus tires too...I think we may have retired Mr. Donovan from bus driving after that year.

Anonymous said...

I actually found our third grade
class photo-we were really quite
something! And yes, Tim was wearing
his brown sport jacket. I am impressed with your memory skills-
I didn't even know what our bus
drivers last name was. I doubt that
the milk cartons sent him to retirement-more likely the harmonious renditions of three cheers to the bus driver...

Okay Okay, I signed up. It's me Stacie Stone Chinni, still crazy, still me, still laugh, two incredibly handsome sons. Still in contact with Beth Malloy, Timmy & Colleen Gallagher & Andy Ximenez via myspace. Living in Austin. Single. Okay so I stink at marriage but I make a great ex-wife. HAHA Yes, I'll be attending and trying to talk Beth & Andi into attendign too.

Anonymous said...

Hiya Lorrie, yeah your Dad thought it was pretty funny when he had to come to our house since the neighbor had shot his gun at Timmy & I for putting a ghost in his yard LOL. I've ran into Charlie quite a few times over the years and he's doing well as Fire Chief. Mr. Donovan was the best bus driver, remember when he would let one of us sit up front and gave us candy. Anyhow, you should post the 3rd grade class, didn't we have Mrs. Richter?
And Bill, I came across a bunch of pictures of us at the pool at my mom's on Christmas. Tell your brothers I said hello.
See everyone soon.
Stacie Stone Chinni

Anonymous said...

Hey, Stacey-How are you? Third grade was Mrs. Denning... Fourth
was Mrs. Richter-I will bring the
pic when I come in June,I have
pics of grades 1,3&4. We were so
cute. Some of us go way back don't
we? I guess some of you all were
really bad children to get shot at!

Anonymous said...

I'm really good. My folks moved a bit north out 281 but I still go every Christmas to my Aunts there in Hollywood park. Oh yes Ms. Denning. Actually it was my idea but Timmy went along with it. We had that nutcase that lived next to us. I can't get over, every time I drive through Hollywood Park how much has changed.
Stacie :-)

Anonymous said...

Your right about that the whole area around Hollywood Park has changed! After my Mom passed away,
I sold her house and so I havent
been back in the park in about a
year and a half- but Our old neigh
bors keep me up on what has been
happening... Heard that Mrs. Sawyer
is still having a hard time excepting what happened to Kelley.
I couldn't beleive when I heard.
She had been my very best friend
in first grade, and we had remained
friends until we left Coker. I guess we have lost more than a few
in our class. It has been fun hearing from people from the old
bus route, and finding out what is
going on! The more I think about this reunion the more I want to see
everyone!

Anonymous said...

Yes. We lost quite a few then and since school. It was very sad about Kelly. Her grandmother just had a milestone Bday so there was a huge writeup in the paper about it. Beth's mom usually keeps us abreast of what's going on (even though I'm just in Austin) after 19 yrs in New Braunfels.
:-)

Robert Stocker said...

Hey Stacey...Long Time!

I still remember going to your house on Halloween. You and your sister (Kim?) made all sorts of fake stuff to put our hands in...telling us it was brains or guts!

I still see Tim now and again but not as much since he moved out to Boerne.

I don't know if you remember Greg Perkins but I still see him quite a bit as well. Your name came up the other day when we were playing remember when. Also, Kent Holt's name came up too.

Anonymous said...

OMG,Ken Holt was Kimberly's 1st bf LOL. Yes, I remember that party and also all those years of trick or treating. Kim's an atty & just moved to Galveston. Greg Perkins, blast from the past, the old group that hung at the Hollywood Park Pool (Bill Kaiser included). Somewhere along the way Timmy became friends with Dad and of course my Mom and Timmy's mom were best friends so I stay in touch. And Barry Ward, of course I remember you. Pretty much everyone I remember.
:-)
Stacie Stone Chinni

Anonymous said...

Okay, Coker, what a blast from the past alright. Ms. Cunningham, Ms. Cook, Ms. Denning, Ms. Richter, Ms. McCabe, Ms. Livingston....Hollywood Park... Hidden Forest...what a trip!
This is Fern Hime (VanSickle). I didn't hang out with all of you. I was of course with the band people by middle school, but I do remember all of you. Didn't Kim Toland and Robert Stocker "go together" (as we called it then) when we were at Coker? I know that Robert dated Sherry Copeland (class of 84) for awhile at WC. Charlie Ivy is now the Chief here in Bulverde. I need to stop by and see him and tell him everyone is talking about him, and get him online. Tim Gallagher was such a fun kid! Mr. Donovan was a sweet old man with his hat and cigar. Does anyone remember the other bus drivers name (nickname) when it wasn't Mr. Donovan?? I do, but want to see if anyone else does. He was really strict! Karen Bailey came up to me the last Friday night (4/18) at Las Palapas at 1604 & 281. She has a 15 year old son, 13 year old daughter and get this a 19-month old baby! She married someone from high school, but I can't remember his name, they were in history class together. And, I saw Kim Toland having lunch with her Mom at Artisan Alley last year. Kathleen Bradley has made contact with me recently and Kathryn Hayes/Emmons and I communicate via email at least every few weeks. I am not sure if I will be attending the reunion, but I hope that you all have a great time!

Robert Stocker said...

Hey Fern...damn you remember everything!

I actually got an email on Classmates from Sherry Copeland a year ago. She is living up on Cape Cod and I believe she is getting her PhD.

As far as Kim Toland goes...it was a rather short go-together...a week by my memory but it was actually in 9th grade. In Coker it was a girl named Robin in 4th grade. I cannot remember her last name for the life of me. Did you guys have Mrs Boxwell, Mrs McCabe or Mrs Albers at Coker?

Kim and Mike Dekker dated for a while at WC. I just spoke with Mike a few days ago to get his information for the reunion.

Anonymous said...

Course I remember you Fern, you lived right behind Mr.Porter's house. I asked Kimberly (sister) if she wanted to go with me Friday. Guess I've been doing good w/crossword puzzles because so far there is only 1 person who's posted that I don't remember. I sent an email to Jerry Organ to sign up. Hiya Karen & Bill, Bill K., Robert Stocker, Lorie Matter, Barry Ward (from Kim). Sorry Fern, you have me stumped but I'm gonna go with "Busdriver man"?

The bus driver that I remember was names "Taco". I remember because I got kicked off the bus and my Mom had to make an appeal to him. She, of course, called him Mr. Taco...he wasn't pleased.
Bobby, if you say that your girlfriend was Robin Kerr in 4th grade we're going to come to blows. She was the light of my eyes in 5th (Mrs. Moore)and I cried when she moved to New Jersey.

Hey Fern, I remember you and you
do remember a lot!!! What are you
with the CIA or something? I vaguely remember Mark Hamil and Angie Hester being an item in fifth
grade...Love on the soccer feild...
The only sweetie I can recall having in elementary was some little boy named Lance in first grade. Remember coach Pearl who would pull out any loose teeth you
might have? I had a best friend in
Mrs.Bachmanns fifth grade named Mellssa Mays...Last I heard she had
moved to Peach Tree, Ga. She was
one of the first to have the stylish Dorothy Hamill haircut. I remember the Whitehurst twins, and
Destie Fowler from first grade... When she always walked on her tip toes. Also, Ricky Brown who lived
on Mustang Circle and wanted to marry every girl he met!!!!! Dawn Davis and I became good friends in
Junior high and oh my did we ever
roller skate! I must stop, I am having too muc fun!!!!

Mike, that is correct. Taco is what we called the other bus driver. I don't think we were very politically correct back then! HA! Bebe Graham...is married I know and has a couple of kids. I stay informed about her through Jeff Moczygemba (class of 82)...drum major. Robert, please tell Sherry hello and that I talk to Colleen Turner (Oakes) via email. Staci, I remember you too. And you are correct we lived behind the Porters on Ventura. We then left Hollywood Park and moved to Hidden Forest in 4th grade. Still...I rode bus 66, which I think became 106 in later times. Yes, unfortunatley it is terrible...my husband hates that I can remember waaaay to much information. I ran in to Sally (Salita) Yates, Lanisa sister and they are both married and living in Hidden Forest still. OMG...Mike Deker...lived down the street from me in HF. Ms. Moore was Wesley Putman's neighbor in San Pedro Hills...she was such a nice lady. Robert, I had Ms. Albers in 4th grade and Ms. Richter and Ms McCabe both taught different math. Whatever happened to John Carreon? (Coker). Lorrie I remember you too! I don't remember Coach Pearl, but there was another coach that came along at Coker. She was a, how do I say it hard looking woman and usually wore her hair in 2 pig tails. Ms...Coach?? Anyone?? I saw Desti Fowler here while back, but didn't get the chance to talk to her. Remember when her and David or was it John Hardage got married on the playground? I stopped in and saw Charlie Ivy. Maybe he will get on here and post. Okay, enough...you are right Lorrie too much fun and memories!

Anonymous said...

Hey Fern, I remember weddings on the playground... All this got me
to thinking and I wondered what ever happened to Stephanie Hill who used to live on Meadowbrook just up the street from the Huggins? She and I used to cruise the streets on our bicycles. Don't
remember the coach, but Pearl was
tough looking too. She was a big
lady! I remember John Carreon, but
don't know what happened to him. Remember Evelyn Morris? She and I
were in Cosmetology at WC. Don't
know where those girls are now. Come on Chuck if you are reading, I want to know what happened to Kim Register- Dad used to keep me
up on her. Karen Bailey got me kicked out of Pep Squad for laughing at her because she would
cackle like a chicken- I got so many demerits, they threw me out!
That late baby is probably payback
for that!!! HaHa! I don't think I
was cut out for Pep Squad anyway
HaHah!!!! Things turn out the way
they are supposed to, so no bad feelings, Karen. It was so damn funny to hear her do that chicken, I couldn't help myself!

Lorrie:
I don't remember Stephanie Hill, but Stephanie Wheeler and Lorie Hill. Not sure what happened to either one. Also Anne White mentioned Stephanie Wissinger and don't know what happen to her either. Jill Litzinger I last heard was an M.D.and living in Austin. Ms. Howe I think was the Coach I remember. Is that correct? There was alo the student PE Teacher Ms. Garcia. She was a sweet lady. Evelyn Morris was always so quiet! Wonder where she is. Karen Bailey, oh yeah, I remember the chicken squawk she would do. And, I vaguely remember you getting kicked out and you were mad! I sat by Paige Wanless and we use to have a blast in Pep Squad our freshmen year. I know Mike Martin doesn't remember me, but I can remember the funky black race shoes that he had. We all use to wear them back in the 70's (uh-hum...did I say that). I remember that Mike thought he could run super fast in those shoes. He use to crack all of us up. Staci, you mentioned Stephanie Johnson (Humphrey later on), remember her sister Valerie? (Val)and I think they had 2 others sisters.

Robert Stocker said...

Stacie...Tim Howard is in SA and I see about every other Saturday at the YMCA. We each have boys the same age so we are usually playing baseball or football against each other a few times a year.

Wes was in SA as of our 20th and he actually had a fun after party at his house after the official event ended.

I ran into Dan at Academy in SA about a year ago and I think he is still here.

Lorrie...I was thinking about Stephanie Hill too the other day. She lived down the street from me on Meadowbrook. Last time I saw her had to be 6th grade. I also know that Kim Register is in town and I will try to dig up an email for her. Bill Kaiser may already have it for his reunion list.

Do you guys remember Bonnie Klauss from Coker and Hollywood Park? Wonder what became of her??

Anonymous said...

Wow, send him my hellos. I never thought of that but my youngest (17) is a junior @ Canyon High School and plays on Varsity Baseball. We do play quite a few of the schools in SA. I remember Bonnie but not sure where she went. Yup, after Mr. Johnson passed away, Stephanie, Andi & Kelly all went back to Humpries and Val stayed with Johnson. Last time I saw a huge group of folks was at Colleen & Timmy's wedding then at Jerry Organ's 1st wedding where I was pregnant at both I think LOL.

I remember Bonnie,I went to a birthday party at her house in either first or second grade, but
I don't know what happened to her
later. I was mad at Karen or mad
at being sent to Mr. Churchill's office? Don't remember... Probably
the latter- what a humiliating thing to be sent to the principals
for!!! I had to explain that to a
grown man :) Worked out though. I
remember the Oakes girls...Isn't it
funny how once you start remembering school, it just triggers one memory after another...Stephanie Hill and I used to want to be Cher. We would
swing our hair like her and try
to dress like her. How crazy is that? There was also Stephanie Rice who played little red ridinghood in our Coker Elementary
productions. Remember going to the Symphony and dressing up?

Stacie,

Sorry I didn't call you back last week. I got your message and although it is very sweet of you, Dave has very vehemently told me NO. Says I was just there and were I to go, he wanted to go too. Plus he doesn't want me to go away again.....guess he loves me, lol. I never hear from or see anyone, so can't keep anyone updated on anyone but Stacie. :( Hope everyone has a blast, and post lots of pics after the even.

Hey guys! This is Karen Bailey Watson! I'm still living here in SA. At WC I met Darryl Watson senior year in Coach Mark's Government class. Let's just say I didn't learn a thing about Government! I know there are three branches!! How could I learn anything about government anyway when a coach was teaching it?!? And I was extremely distracted because Darryl sat at a table in the front of the room! Anyway, in 1990 Darryl and I got married - almost 18 years ago! We have 3 children, ages 15, 13 and holy cow---19 months! What a shock to get pregnant at 41! I didn't think Darryl would live through it, but he did, and Colby (boy) is our easiest kid we've had! By the time you get to the third kid, you've pretty much got parenting mastered, and hey we're tired and slow so we're much calmer parents! We were going to have our kids out of high school by the time we are 48, now we'll be 60! Anyway, I never graduated from college, but worked at a couple of hospitals. I've been a stay at home mom for 13 years now! My last real job was an administrative assistant at KCI in information systems. It's crazy to think that when I worked there was no internet! How things have changed! I remember cd's had just come out before I left. I remember telling one of my managers it would be cool if we could just download all the information I had to input manually onto a cd. He said, there's no to record to a cd! I've volunteered at the kids schools, worked Mothers Day Out at Castle Hills First Baptist and taken care of a child out of my home. Right now, I just take care of my own kids! And yes, I still keep in touch with Kim Toland Ruch. Our families get together for dinner sometimes. Also, we occasionally get together for lunch. We do talk on the phone all the time! And she lives right down the road from me in Sonterra. I've run into Dawn Chapman a couple of times. She's got about four kids and wanted to get pregnant again. I saw John Carreon at Dillards Central Park back in 1990. He was playing in a band at the time! I was in love with him in 2nd grade at Coker!Jason Weatherman and Brett Folkes live in my neighborhood here in Canyon Springs. Lorrie Matter - as for me getting you kicked out pep squad for making chicken noises, I didn't even know that happened! I do remember always acting dorky and trying to make everyone laugh all the time! The whole reason I was in high school was to have fun! If I were in high school today, I wouldn't even graduate. I think my overall average for all 4 years was a 71! But hey I spent lots of time in detention for tardies, on campus suspension for skipping out, at home suspension because I had Julie Kilborns pipe and bag of marijuana in my purse! Once I got suspended for going off campus to those apartments by the teachers parking lot and drank screwdrivers before school. I think VOE teacher Mrs. Range, turned us in! I spent lots of time in Mr. Middleton, Mr. Dockery and Mr. Churchill's office! I was even in a school club! It just happened to be the Waste-O-Club! My 15 year old goes to Reagan HS and if he ever does half the stuff I did, I'll have to kill him! Ha!

I guess I should answer for Darryl because he's busy working so I can continue to stay at home and take care of all our kids. After graduating from high school, Darryl attended UTSA while continuing to work at NPC homebuilders as a draftwman. In 1987, he transferred to Baylor where he received his BBA in 1989 and his law degree in 1991. Several years ago I asked Darryl what made him decide to go to law school, thinking some life changing event affected him. His response was "I thought it would be cool to tell people I'm an Attorney!" Fortunately, the highlight of his life was when he married me in 1990! Ha! Anyway, he became an associate at Gordon Hollon and Associates in Boerne right out of law school. In 1993, he became a partner at Bobbitt, Halter and Watson here in SA. He practices civil litigation. He occasionally has had lunch with Sean Paige who is also an attorney. Darryl is an awesome husband and father! He works hard and spends lots of time with our kids basketball practices and tournaments. The older ones both play AAU ball. We also spend lots of time doing things with our extended families since both of our families still live here.

Hi fellow Chargers! It's Amie Fahel. What a blast from the past stumbling across this reunion web site. Even though nobody is looking for me and my name's not mentioned on the "whatever happened to.." blogs, (LOL!) here's my lowdown!

After graduating WC, I graduated from UT Austin with a BS in Elementary Education and started my teaching career immediately after college. I have been an elementary school teacher for 20 years. I married my wonderful husband Mark Jurica in 1992 (we met when I was teaaching school at Larkspur Elementary in NEISD and he was finishing his engineering degree in Austin) Moved to Wells Branch after getting married, then to Round Rock, back to SA for a few years (taught at Oak Meadow Elementary and opened Huebner Elementary) and now live in Bulverde, Texas (about 10 miles north of 281/1604)

We have two beautiful daughters, Abbie 13 and Lindsay 9. This is my last year of teaching, and I am now going to enjoy being a retired teacher and stay at home mom.

I can remember all of the names mentioned and people who have posted blogs. Fern...I challenge you at the memory game! Remember when the two of us ran into each other at Morgan S. (Kiddie Koop) birthday party?

My oldest and dearest friend from WC is Allison Guess, who is living in LA, married and has a daughter named Katherine (koko) Hey Al...wanna go to the reunion?

Bill Kaiser...remember when the two of us were office assistants together and we'd fight over which one of us got to deliver a note to a teacher/student? You haven't changed a bit in your recent pics!

Dan Pollard...you broke my heart when you dumped me for Leah (redhead)somebody, but I'm over it now. LOL!

Jason Weatherman, Kenny Linton, Neal McMasters...remember the summer days at the Harmony Hills Cabana Club?

Janine and Janice Marshall...lost track of the two of you after college. Where are you? Remember our days at LBJ lake? I still remember your german sheppard Liberty.

Anchor Club...now that was fun. We couldn't wait for the "Kiss a Beau" day when we'd kidnap the guys before school and take them to breakfast. They had to wear a "Kiss me, I'm a Beau!" tag all day. We'd hunt them down just for a peck!

Jack Caughlin (sp!?) ..I remember your old fashion car you used to drive...was that in highscool?

Pep Squad, Dance Team...those were the days! My two daughters refuse to believe that I was on Dance Team and had any bit of athletic ability in me at all! Even the highschool year book pictures don't convince them!

Doris and the gang - sorry I never made it out to one of your Girls Night Out!

I haven't been the best at keeping in touch with fellow Chargers, but I sure do remember them all!

Not sure if I'll make it to the reunion..have a great time and post lots of pictures!

Hello, this is Sam Esquivel. My wife, Christi, and I went to the 20 year reunion and actually hosted a couple of "after" parties. I am glad to hear that there is such a big movement for number 25.

I know that Kriese and Dave Cocke will be attending. I also got a call from Kirsten Robinson, and she is coming to SA for the party.

I am living in SA, and sell medical equipment (custom wheelchairs) for a company called Hope Medical. I actually ran into Dan Pollard's mother no too long ago. She saw my Aggie ring and wanted to know if I knew her son. How could I ever forget Big D. I did not have the heart to tell Mrs. Pollard that Dan was too pure for me at A&M (12th Man and all). I actually hung around with his brother, Paul. But we won't talk about that.

Since others are asking about the MIA's, I have a few: Where is Neal McMasters? Neal, I've always kept my mouth shut about the pie incident. Stephanie Wissinger, where the hell are you? Jan, I think Kirsten said she was going to try and get you to join us. Kovacs, I can't wait to catch up with you. What ever happened to that guy "Tiny" from A&M?

I really hope to see many of you that we saw at the 20th: Brenda, Kathy, Karen, Jill.

I can't wait to see you.

Sam

Oh, the good old days at the Cabana Club, I was in love with a couple of the life guards there. LOL. My very favorite was Amehl (sp) he was gorgeous, I think Robert Specks sister ended up dating him for a while..heart breaking HA! I spent many an hour there. Haven't heard anything latley on Neil McMasters but I know his little brother, is a priest, he was a good friend of my little brother back in the day.

Some sightings and updates...on a few fellow classmates....

I heard from Barbara Arden several months ago, via classmates, and email, she's doing well, I think she's planning on attending the reunion.

Sean Amestoy is a successful Rodeo Coach at Wharton County Junior College. Last I heard from him he was living the good life, with a wonderful wife and happy little family.

Luara White married her high school sweet heart Dale Randol, has two beautiful children, they still live in Hollywood Park, she went back to school and just graduated last week, and still going stong. WAY TO GO Luara!

Any fellow Harmony Hills Elementary classmates out there? Anyone remember Mr. Whitney and "Snoopyville" I opened a Vet Hospital and I think I went bankrupt LOL. He was a great teacher. He used to play the radio in the classroom, I thought that was the coolest thing EVER!

Hey Karen, Glad to see you found the blog. I didn't realize you married Darryl Watson. We used to work at Weiner's Department store together, right? Am I remembering the right person? That's when I started dating Randy Stumpf. Does anyone know where he is these days?
I think we need to start a site on the blog about where we worked in high school. I worked at Weiner's and also at Clothestime for a while. Anybody else remember his/her high school job? There must be some funny stories in there somewhere.....

Remember how poor the turnout was to the reunion and having to share the facilities with another class and getting kicked out a 10:30 p.m. -- I can assure you, the weekend we have planned for the 25th will blow it away!! Now get me your contact info and RSVP !!!

Hey Brenda it's Karen Watson! Yes, I married Darryl Watson and he did work at Weiners in high school as a stock boy! I think his responsibilities included vacuuming and sorting hangers! Ha! One night in 83, my Mom and I went to Weiners. Darryl was vacuuming when I introduced her to him. He talks about that now and says my mom was probably thinking, "What a loser!" He turned out pretty good graduating from law school after all! On another note, I worked at Baskin Robbins on Brookhollow in the 10th grade! I use to walk to work in my dorky brown, pink and white stripped uniform with a hat that had a big pompom on top! My family loved my job since I'd take home ice cream to them each night! Senior year, I worked at Methodist Hospital through the work program. I continued working there 6 years after high school. See you at Jazzercize!

Nice to see what everyone is up to. This is Claudia Arreguin. I presently live in Westlake, OH (don't laugh, cause it is a suburb of Cleveland, I have heard them all). I live here with Chris (my fiance). I sat next to him on flight from Hong Kong to Chicago. Never in my wildest dreams and travels did I ever think I would end up in CLE. I have been working for United Airlines. I commute to my base in Washington D.C., where I fly all over this world. Last year I managed to get a B.S. in Holistic Nutrition and now working on Doctor of Naturopathy from Clayton College of Natural Health. Ual is my second airling, Pan Am first and I have finally figured out that I may need something to fall back on.

My mother still lives in the same house, I visit as often as I can. I frequently talk and see Bridget Maggot Rodriguez (she has 2 sons), planning to attend union with her. I have also had the opportunity to see Lynette Flores Black (2 sons) while on layovers in Houston. I am friends with Bobby Garza's brother (Gabe and Maria work for United), went with them to Spurs Parade. Still keep in touch with Patty Castillo Rosas (4 sons), the Rosas' lived next door to my mom. Love visiting Mary Garcia at her Closet Conniseur.
I also ran into Kevin Gallivan at Teipei and NIOSA about a year ago. I am looking forward to seeing everyone.

I married a pilot for Delta and moved out here 3 yrs ago when the Delta base closed in DFW, and I am based in Atlanta now. We have a farm and I am still barrel racing and riding dirt bikes. Where are you? Do your parents still live in SA? I have fond memories of you and me stealing my parents cigs and trying to smoke them with Carlos Garcia. I also have all the memories of Coker Elem and your dad helping the boys pull the girls in the mud during tug of war. I have 2 girls 12 and stepdaughter 13, and I am getting paid back for all the hell I put my parents through in those lovely teen years! How many kids do you have? And who did you marry? All you band people...Sam, Kiersten, Brenda, Sarah...and whoever else....I remember all of you. Even though I didn't make it through Charger Band all the way till our senior year...they were good times. How about those flags??? Sherry Gulzinsky (sp), Kathryn Ode, Julie Heard, Lisa Thomas, Kristen Harrell, myself, and God Bless Nancy Dennett...I miss her so much. Does anyone know where Karen McGrew is? I saw her but about 8-years ago and tried making contact after a lunch reunion with Kathleen Bradley at the beginnig of this year. Kate May, the last I knew of her was that she was teaching in NISD and I saw that her Dad had passed away a few years ago. I am very best friends wiht Jeff "Get off my field" Moczygemba as he is my son's Godfather. Pam Huff (french horn)is a patent attorney for Cox & Smith (Of course both of them are class of 82) Francis "Frank" Heidi is a dentist in Victoria and Jeff keeps me up to date with him. I will see him a week before the reuionn at the Moczygemba family party. Beatrice "BeBe Graham is here in town and I will try to catch up with her through Jeff as well and get her to come to the reunion (she is Frank's cousin). Keith Janysek, his 5-year old son and my 5-year old son attend the same daycare. I will pass information on to him as well. I just saw him this morning. Kelly Franklin from what I understand her family has a ranch in Blanco now and they lease it out for different events, etc...I will try to make contact with her too.
Claudia, if you read this..I so remember you. You use to be sooo much fun to gossip with. And Patty Flores what a hoot she was. Where you also friends with Andrea Hernandez?
Cathy Coker, I remember that we thought you could run soooo fast back at Coker, and you could! I have tried and tried to get Kathleen Bradley to come, but she is extremely busy these days.
Karen Baily Watson..you are a trip! You always go out of your way to say hello when we see each other. And your Baby Boy...how cute he is, and your kids are great! Is Kim Toland planning on coming to the reunion? Karen, I remember your Mom's really cool classic 1968,69, 70??? Cougar XR7...Wow!
Kathryn Emmons, keep the emails/phone calls coming. I will look forward to seeing you here in about a month and get our plans together regarding the reunion. Looking forward to catching up with everyone.

Hey Fern! Karen Bailey Watson here. Man, you do remember everything! You shouldn't ever get Alzheimers with a memory like that! Yes, I did drive a 1968 Cougar! Wow, was it fast! I thought I was really cool driving it! (especially with the windows and the music cranked up!) It started out as my Mom's car, then mine, then my brother's. He finally ended up selling it. Those were fun times! Now I drive a gas gussling suburban full of kids! Ha! Who would have thought?! Sometimes it seems like there are fifty kids in it but there are only three! Look forward to seeing you at the reunion if we can come. I went ahead and rsvp'd but we could be heading to Georgetown that weekend for our daughter Kelsey's basketball tournament. Sometimes they get cancelled though. Regardless, we should be able to make the Friday night social wherever it will be. Talk to you soon! Fern, how is your mom? She's always been so nice. I think I ran into you two at Walmart sometime a while back.

Hi Fern,
You sure are keeping this blog interesting. I just talked to Patty Castillo, she is pretty sure she is going. As far as I know Lynette Flores won't be, lives in Houston and no sitter. I guess we have a lot of catching up to do. Claudia

Kathryn said...

Has anyone heard or seen Patricia Black? I think she married Chris Tomlin or Tomlinson (a year older) right after she graduated. She had a little sister Tracey I think (a year younger.)

OR David Meyers, Paul Nelson

Anonymous said...

Hi Fern--Yes, I hung out with a lot of the band people, but I was actually in drill team. At least for my junior year. Couldn't put up with the live-and-die for drill team attitude of Miss Angell though. I figured I had other things to keep me busy in my senior year...like a job, a boyfriend and calculus! I did have fun in drill team though. Anybody remember the San Diego trip?

Robert Stocker said...

I think we were smoking Benson & Hedges that belonged to your parents if I remember correctly. I thought you were so cool stealing them! I can't believe we were doing that in Elementary school seeing as my kids are now both in Elementary!

I can't believe your memory about my Dad and the tug of war either!!

And Fern...you are right, Cathey was fast as SH**!! I remember several play ground challenge races with her back in the day at Coker.

I married a Yankee from Cape Cod and sold her on coming back to San Antonio. We have been in SA since 98 and have 2 boys that are 7 and 5

We live over in Oak Meadow which is the neighborhood south of Shavano Park on NW Military.

My parents divorced right after high school but my mom still lives out in Hollywood Park. I would move back there in a second if we could find the right house.

Looking forward to seeing you at reunion... I will try to dig up some class photos from Coker for old time sake

Hi Fern, it is so good to hear about you and relive all your memories. I havent thought about all of those things in so long! Are your parents still in Hollywood park? Do you hear anything from Stephany Humpheries? Thank you and Robert for saying I was fast- that was alllllllong time ago! I got a degree in Kinesiology and Sports Science and intended to be a track coach, somehow I became a flight attendant ,must of been because of all the glamour! Ha Ha! We all have some awesome memories of our time from Coker to Churchill. I still think about Tommy Maurer alot. And was saddened to hear about Kelly Sawyer, she was my neighbor . Also Nancy Dennant. That was very sad ,I think she had ovarian cancer. I have lost track of Shelly Whitehurst, does anyone have contact info on her? I know Sherri is a vet in SA. I talk to Leslie (Roberts) alot, she is still in SA. I saw Sean Amestoy about 8 years ago. I went to his wedding. He is the rodeo coach at Wharton Jr College. He is very happy and doing well. Does anyone have any news on Lisa Kottler?

Hey Karen, Yes, the Cougar was a fast car. I had a 1970 XR7 with a 365 Windsor in it...I got in a lot of trouble with that car in high school. And, it wasn't in quiet the mint condition yours was...especially after Kathleen Bradley and Kelly Franklin used shaving cream on the trunk to spray Hi Fern from KB and KF real hard to figure out who it was! And, it stained the trunk with those words and stayed that way till Wendy Cobb rear-ended me in the parking lot at school did it get replaced and painted. I too now drive a big gas guzzling Yukon. Thanks for asking about my Mom, she is in poor health, but manages to be up and going each day. Cathy, we built a house in 1974 in Hidden Forest and moved from Hollywood Park. My Dad passed away in 1986. My Mom came to live with me in 1997 as her health began to decline. We now share a home that we built together with her in Bulverde. We have a very sweet and beautiful 5-year old boy. I am a sales rep in medical harware, software and service. I have been in that line of work for 14-years now and I am blessed to work at home for the last 8 years...nice with the gas crises!
I have not seen Stephanie Humphrie/Johson or her sister Val since school. Nancy Dennet did die from ovarian cancer and a lot of us attend her memorial service in Austin. Yes, I was sadden of the news of Kelly Sawyer...she was always so outgoing. Does anyone know the whereabouts of Lisz Kotzebue? Here is one for everyone that Kathryn Emmons remember...how about Mr. Crandall...the math teacher at Ike...what a trip huh? Amy Fahel, you and I had that class together and was Dan Pollard also in that class? Brenda, sorry, I was thinking you were in band but remember that you were in drill team. Okay...that's it I will see everyone at the reunion. B - Fern

Cathey,

If I remember right, you whipped Dan Pollard in a race back at Coker. I don't know if you were ever able to beat Jeff Hammill...
Didn't you and Suan Tasto "borrow" my truck so that she could visit old friends in Luling??

Anonymous said...

Yep! I remember Mr. Crandall's math class at Ike! Wasn't his class in a portable building? And you got to sit in the front row if you made good grades?!

You Coker alum sure lived on the wild side in Elementary school! LOL! Wish I had some old Harmony Hills stories to tell, but I guess I was too boring to have any.

I do remember getting detention at Eisenhower for writing the "B" word on someone's locker...I won't say who and drudge up old rivals! I had to go up to school on a Saturday with a sack lunch and Coach Roach was waiting for me with a bucket and a sponge...I had to scrub all the lockers in the building as my punishment. That's my one and only "wild side" story to tell...

What happened to Kelly Sawyer? I remember her well from our dance team days. I can still hear her distinct laugh when I think about her.

I see Mary Ann Wilson often since our oldest daughters go to school together. She is very active and involved at school, her daughter is a cheerleader.

Hi Amie, Kathryn Hayes Emmons here. Do you remember Mr. Whitney? He was a fifth grade teacher, he did "Snoopy Ville", I wasn't in her class but I remember Mrs. Coker ( I think was her name)She used to put students in her coat closet when they misbehaved, I remember parents making a big stink about after one of the boys passed out in there one day. She was mean as hell! Remember Roy the janitor he was cool.

Yes, Mr. Crandall was in the protables, very odd man, I remember him throwing some of his famous fits, we laughed so hard it just made it worse!

I was boring in elementry and middle school, never got into trouble until high school and that was mostly over my grades and skipping school.

Hello everyone, it's great to see all the posts, and to catch up on the memories. Julie, thanks for setting up the blog, and Bill, thanks for organizing the reunion. I hope I can make it, but I still need to work out some logistics. I haven't kept in touch with anyone from Churchill and it would be great to see you again.

I live in New Jersey, just across the Hudson river from New York. I've been married for 17 years to my wife Nancy, who I met at Baylor. We have two boys, 10 and 12 years old. I work at the BMW North American headquarters as the Sales & Marketing Manager for the Northeast. I'm always traveling to Boston, DC, Philly, and the points in between. If you live in the area, it would be great to get in touch.

If I don't see your post on the blog, send me an email, David.Duncan@BMWNA.com.

Hitch a ride with Julie Reeves since she is coming from New Jersey as well.

Hi Mike! It is good to hear from you! Yes, I think outran Dan Pollard by 2 playground lengths! I dont think I could catch Jeff Hamill. I read about what you have been up to since highschool, your wife must be so proud! That story cracked me up, you havent changed! Yes, I remember your lime green metallic short bed chevy. I think me and Tasto did take it to Luling. Where is she? Are you still in SA? Are your parents still in Hill Country Village? Looking forward to seeing you at the reunion. Cathey

Hi Kathryn,
I do remember Mr. Whitney and all of his snoopy things! I also remember Mrs. Coker, but it wasn't Coker, it was Croshier, putting kids who misbehave in the coat closet! That would NEVER fly these days! What's been really wierd about having attended Harmony Hills is that I became a teacher (just finished 20 years of teaching!) and returned to NEISD after college and ended up seeing some of MY teachers from Harmony Hills at district meetings! Mrs. Curtis, my 3rd grade teacher, sat by me at one of our meetings...too wierd!

Mrs. Croshier's son grew up to become an Elementary PE coach and I used to run into him often at inservices and teacher workshops.

Remember how they used to post the class lists on the front windows of Harmony Hills and we'd rush up to school to see who our teacher was going to be and who would be in our class?? We still do that at the elementary level!

Remember the holiday pageant we performed one year at Harmony Hills...my part was to carry a big poster sized dove across the stage as we sang "Let there be peace on Earth"!

Those were the good ol' days!

Hey Fern! Karen Watson again! I've got one for you....Remember Bad Breath Briggs 6th grade math teacher at Eisenhower? If you had a question, she'd always walk around the room and personally answer your question. But she breathed all over you and had bad breath! I never asked any questions because of this. No wonder Math never was one of my strong suits!

Oh my--so many great stories--Julie (Reeves) Campbell here--this is going to be terrific to see so many folks. Cathey I remember how fast you were too! I heard a few names mentioned I've been trying to track down--Lisa Kottler, the Publicovers, Neal McMasters...looks like Sherri Whitehurst is coming, what about Shelly???

Brenda, Kirsten, Sam glad to hear about all of you--and how well you're doing--we had a lot of classes together back in the day. David Duncan--where do you live in NJ???? Do you know Jim Benedict is in NYC? We should set up NYC area alum network. My older brother is only a mile from us...
Can't wait for reunion.

Bill - the 4.8 is a great ride! Whenever I drive X5's I always go for the 4.8! BTW - I just booked my airline this morning. It's confirmed, I'll be there. The check's in the mail. ; )

Julie - I very briefly talked to Cliff when he was up here having dinner with Benedict. That was the first I heard of Jim being here. I like the idea, we should set up something for the WC alumni. There are even a few from other classes. I'm in Paramus and I work in Woodcliff Lake. Exit 161 as they say in NJ.

See you guys there!

This is too much fun. It is deluding me into thinking I actually had friends in high school.

Hi Amie,

Yes! Mrs. Croshier! That's it... Coker didn't sound right. I remember her son too, I think it was the same one that used to come up and play his guitar for us in the library, remember that? I thought that was the coolest thing EVER! I remember getting home from school one day and Mrs. Croshier was at my house, my mom sold her some antique desk or something she was picking up, I remember telling my Mom " oh great NOW she knows where I live, just great! "

Oh I do remember runing up to the school to see what teacher we got. It's was SO important back in the day. I barely remember the pagents but can't remember what part I played, it surely wasn't a lead signing part! HA. I remember the day we FINALLY got our Recorders! So cool.
Do you remember the whole "crossing gurad club" I thought I would just die if I didn't make it. I did then it sucked after the first rain! I remember Jeff Pebbles was one of the Captains.

I also remember we couldn't talk in the cafeteria becsue it was in between the class rooms, I think it was Tim Howard who stayed in constant trouble over that.

Robert Stocker said...

Hey Amie...I saw where you were asking about Kelly Saywer.

I guess it was right around our
20th reunion, she committed suicide.

Kelly had been through alot and when I heard about it, I was quite shocked. She had lived right down the street from me in Hollywood Park and I had known her since 1st grade.

Don't mean the bring the mood of the blog down...back to the time machine.

Amie...I am sure there were just as many wild ones at Harmony Hills as there were at Coker. I mean Tim Howard??? We couldn't hold a candle to his wildness at Harmony Hills...haha

Kathryn/Amie:

Are you guys talking about Annie Crozier at Harmony Hills? She was my 2nd cousin and passed a way just a few years ago. Yes, she was a strict one wasn't she?? Roger, that was her son was the girl's basketball coach at WC, at least our Frehsmen year. So, of course that made him my 3rd cousin. And,talk about embarrasing. I was wearing high-heel shoes one day at school(yeah it was an 80's thing) and I was in the auditorium testing. My foot went to sleep and I had to go to the restrooms,I got up fell and sprang my ankle. Roger (Coach Crozier) had to come and pick me up, and carry me to the gym to soak my foot in a bucket of cold water. I was sooo humiliated that he had to carry me out of the auditorium!! Karen, I had Ms. Forester in 6th grade math...but there was a boy in there that I liked (he moved- Jon Padalecki) so I didn't pay much attention to math either! I do remember Ms. Briggs. Any one remember Mr. Jennings the science teacher at Ike? Or, Mr. Bradford the 8th grade History teacher that everyone wanted because he was so laid back. He use to listen to either KKYX or KBUC in class when we were having our test. Hey Coker Alums...do you also remember Ms. Dyer? She moved from Coker after our 5th grade year to become a 6th grade teacher at Ike? - Fern Hime VanSickle

Anonymous said...

Fern, was Mr. Jennings that cute blonde Science teacher at Ike? If so, I had him and had a huge crush on him! Mrs. Dyer...I had her for 6th grade English or was it reading? Anyway, she was so nice! Fern, what's happened to Susie Lopez? I'll never forget her laugh! Do you remember one day after school when we were waiting for the schoolbus to pick us up and Susie Francini's wrap around skirt fell all the way to her knees? I happened to be standing next to her when it happened! She thought I untied it and was mad at me the rest of 6th grade. Susie Lopez laughed her head off! Another time when Susie Francini stepped off the bus one morning at school, she missed her step, fell on her butt and her pancho flew over her head! How embarassing! Aaaah, the days of wrap around skirts and panchos! Getting a little more current, does anyone remember wearing dresses or skirts with slits up the sides at WC and "Candies" high heels? That sounds so trashy now! Karen Bailey Watson

Oh my gosh, I forgot about the closet thing. I started 5th grade in Ms. Crozier's class, 1st time in public school. It scared and scarred me for life. I was so afraid to speak, that I just didn't for the rest of my public school years. I recall some poor guy named Eddie, who practically lived in the closet. I really did not have an easy going teacher until Churchill Biology...Coach Hansen. Claudia

Kathryn said...

Wow I remember Eddie, poor guy, he used to wear one of those "fake" leather coats, and it smelled like BBQ smoke so bad, the teachers used to make him take it off and leave it in the hallway, he was so embaressed. I felt bad for him.

I remember I was so relieved when I went up to school before fifth grade and saw my name under Mr. Whitney's class, I would have never made it through Croshier's class.
They would have put her in jail thses days, she wouldn't have gotten away with have the stuff she did back then now days! I can see how it could scar a person!

Three of the coolest teachers ever:

Mr. Overstreet - Ike Science (he actually went into photography after years of teaching and took my bridal portrait picture!)

Mrs. Kemble - WC Chemestry - she was so laid back and cool!

Mrs. Alley - WC Math - so very nice!

Amie Fahel Jurica

Kathryn said...

Anyone remember Mr. Koenick (sp) Science teacher STRANGE BIRD!
Mr. Schmidt was pretty cool ( band director, except for the time he suggested I played the tuba during tryouts, ended up playing the Alto Sax...it really got bad when he made me play the Baritone Sax in Jazz Band, had to play a solo part on "Black Magic Woman" people harrased me about that for years! Anyone still have that album we cut? Remember that?

Julie (Reeves) Campbell said...

Mrs. Kemble was very cool--Julie Jacobson and I used to sit in the back and throw gummy bears on the ceiling during lectures--that's about as daring as I ever got in high school--not nearly as cool as sneaking smokes...ah well. Mr. Overstreet did a family pic of us way after high school, too--great guy. And how about Mr. Perry and "blunder physics!" I don't know how I ever got through that class...probably explains why I can't get my youngest son to understand the concept of gravity as he catapults off the jungle gym time after time...

Tomorrow will be my kids last day of school for summer break! I'm reminded of how fun it was on the last day when everyone would throw all their school papers up and down the hallways at WC! And out the windows down to the courtyard! It makes me feel bad now that the custodians had to clean all that mess up. Even on our school bus, we'd have a paper fight and trash the whole bus! Those were the good old days huh?! You can't do that kind of stuff now. It's also a shame that in middle school the kids can't even go outside at lunch. I remember at Ike, we could. Karen Bailey Watson

Hi everyone, this is Anne White. It's really fun reading through all of the blog notes, with all of the memories they are bringing to mind. I'd planned on attending the reunion, but unfortunately, I have a conflict now. I'll miss having the opportunity to catch up with old friends, but I hope that there will be a contact list/directory published that could be shared, if people are open to it.

Amie Fahel, I remember dance team and 'football buddies' - boy was the football team spoiled! All those hours and dollars poured into weekly gifts :) and, I think you did most of the work. Thanks for all of the rides home after school, too!

Oh, and it was Leah Silen that Dan Pollard dumped you for, I think.

Julie J, I remember when you and Joann Schwarz (where is she??) burned yourselves to a crisp with an ancient tanning lamp.

. . . and someone asking Mrs. Swayze if she'd give extra credit for going to see " Missing Persons" (concert)- she asked from what war. . .

I remember giving a lot of rides home to friends and others after waste-o parties, since I didn't drink, but was the only one without a curfew.

. . . and Stephanie Wissinger calling Mr. Rigby
(Junior year Science teacher) an as* after he made fun of someone in class. Only she could get away with something like that.

. . . and getting lost at Canyon Lake on Robert's boat when the steering wheel broke and it was pouring. Alisa Tassani and Mary Ann Stutts were in tears, and Robert fell asleep! And, speaking of Mary Ann, didn't she, Jack Claflin and Cliff Simpson get in a car accident in either Jack's or Cliff's grandfather's car one night (no injuries) - I think they crashed into a house and then tried to run away. . .

Sam, Kirsten, David K, David C - good to hear you're all doing well. Julie Reeves - oh, I think I was in your Physics class (I only took one semester) with Mr. Perry - he used to always say " what a gift" when he'd hand out those tests! Mike Martin, do you remember Mrs. Luke in 7th grade English - " Class, the tardy bell has ruuung." And, you always beat me in Student Council elections "Ike wants Mike" (or something like that). Was there anyone who ran for office more and lost more than I did?

Cathy Coker - I think I may be able to locate Lisa Kottler - I'll let you know.

Brenda - you said Stephanie is in Florida - did you mean Wissinger? Where in Florida? I'm outside of Jacksonville.

Anyway, I'm being longwinded. . . I would love to hear from some of you, especially since I'll be missing the reunion - drop me a line at white_anne@hotmail.com

Anne:

I believe all applicable statutes of limitations have run, so I can clarify that I did in fact run my '72 Buick Electra into a house. Mary Ann and Autumn Marler were there. No injuries, but definitely qualified as a bad day.

That was one of many "incidents" involving me putting a variety of vehicles into spaces occupied by other vehicles, buildings, guardrails, trees, etc. I'm thinking about this now because my oldest just got his license. Bad carma, I guess.

Escaped from Utah, and I'm now working in the entertainment industry as a manager/producer in Los Angeles. Hi Cathey!

I'ts Barbara (Ham) Barron; Ironically, when I was in town for Christmas my father was asking about you; Do you remember when you, me, and Lisa Kottler snuck out of my bedroom window in search of the elusive "gimp" Wayne Earnest, only to get to the corner and get attacked by bats? Then, when we ran home and climbed back in the window, we were met by a huge wasp nest outside my window that swarmed my room and we all started screaming and got busted by my dad? Oh, the good old days, when all you had to worry about were Friday night breakouts and scaring each other over nothing;

I'm trying to rearrange my schedule and come in town, as I was already due to be there for Father's Day next weekend. Due to the illustrious leader Bill Kaiser's "encouragement" (prodding, threatening), I think I might be able to swing it; Kudos' to you, Bill, for pulling this thing off; it's no easy chore. Though you're resorted to bribery, violence, and blackmail, you've done a bang up job getting all this done, my friend; Well done!

Looking forward to seeing you all;

Stacie Stone - Should I resort to stories from Hollywood Park swimming pool days?? -- I am missing your payment as well.

Cliff Simpson - no excuse. You're an attorney for goodness sake.

Everyone.... this IS hard work pulling it all together. The next few weeks are even going to get crazier for me. Please help me out and make this easier. Get in your checks so we have the funds to ensure a great time. My accounting background prevents me from committing to getting something lined up without having the funds in.

Since we're talking about high school jobs...

I worked at Michael's -- the arts and crafts store. I started off in framing, where I learned why oval glass is so expensive (it usually took me three tries to cut it correctly). Later I learned to run the cash register, make bows and write people's names on stuff with paint pens. I never did understand the model train department, though.

I also started my own mum and boutonniere business, where I pioneered preppy and punk styles (for those looking for something other than the usual Churchill colors).

Kathryn said...

I worked at Country Side Florist for a while, I used to make some pretty awesome mums with roses, and all kinds of goodies we didn't pay for....hmmm... I learned all about dealing with "tempermental floral designers", I worked with a guy name Rudy and man, if he was fighting with his boyfrined, we all paid for it....too funny. I also worked at Clear Visions Printing, Marc Blankly, Mitch Walker, Kathy Bradley ( not to be confused with Kathleen) and William White all worked there. We used to put press powder on the donuts, Marc had a habit of consuming dozens at a time, we thought that would discourage him, but he never knew...it's a wonder we didn't make him deathly ill! Oh and we used to print the beer tickets for NIOSA...back before they realized they could be duplicated...we had all the beer tickets we needed..oh the good old days...

anyway? She was so nice when we
were in Cosmetology together. I
remember Jeff Hamill being fast but, there was a red headed girl
named Monique that could fly. She
must have moved because I don't remember her after Coker. Interesting to hear from everyone. Mike Martin should have
his own comedy show. Although it
wouldn't be on for long since he
isn't very P.C. Very amusing though. If you think those people

you should make a short trip to the Texas Hill Country and enjoy the little burg of Center Point.
But, I won't go into that. Just
happy to see everyone checking in.

Lorrie...I remember Monique. She lived on the corner of Sky Forest and Voight. I used to pass by her house on the way to Fleetwood Trails to meet up with Tim Gallagher.

I think she was only at Coker for a few years but still not in Cathey's league.

I think at the Friday event, Cathey, Dan Pollard, Mike Martin and myself should decide once and for all who was the fastest at Coker...sort of like the Seinfeld episode.

Amie I dont know if you remember this , but you were my first girlfriend. Of course we were at Coker. I wish i could remember the other three guys but one day we were talking about how we all liked you and I wanted to be the first to say some thing so that night I went home and told my mom and she said here give her this ring. I think it had ruby's in it. It only lasted a day or two because when at P.E. every time I got the ball you ask me to give it to you and that was just too much for a boy to handle, so I took the ring back. Wow boys sure can be dumb.

Hey Robert...what a difference 25yrs make. how about the time we froze our ass off with your dad and mine during that cub scout trip with Eddie Hernadez. Will be good to see you again. By the way what ever happened to that freaky kid at Coker that use to think it was cool to spit on each other during recess on the monkey bars. Oh yeah I have no shame in the memory department.

Funny story about those videos. I got that job through Paramount Pictures. During the recording session I just had to adlib a bunch of things about how I liked the Peanuts Gang. So there I am saying peanuts several different time but one came out a little slurred and it sounded more like penis.
Two months later the producer calls me saying I have to come back in to do an ADR because the production company had delivered 30,000 units with me saying "I love Penis videos "and they had hundreds of phone calls with moms saying there kids were running around the house mimicking me. I alwyas say that my joke for the Tonight Show.

I think that spitting kids name was Skinner

Was reading through the blog and came across Anne White; did you happen to live near me in the last few years in Dallas? I seem to recall a humiliating experience that might have involved you;

I live in a house backing to a lake, and it was raining; there were a bunch of baby ducks floating down the creek and stuck in a drainage ditch; From what I recall (as this happens often, sadly enough), I could have been in my work clothes, waste deep in the creek, with a net and a laundry basket trying to keep them from drowning; there were several neighbors gathered around wondering what "the crazy duck lady" (as I'm fondly called) was doing this time...... As I was scooping them out of the creek I remember someone saying, "I think I went to high school with you at Churchill". I was just praying, in all my insanity, when I looked up, it was someone who liked me; I think it was you, but you don't live in Dallas. If it was you, and I was a little "off", I was on a mission to save those damn baby ducks and equally mortified to be frantically scouring a creek with a net and laundry basket while running into someone from high school. If it was you, sorry we didn't talk longer in the torrential rainfall and good to see you; The baby ducks lived in my garage for about a month before my husband threatened to divorce me and then I found a super nice bird rescue operation south of Dallas...I am their number one client.... and contributor....

Hi Barb - I remember you well (and good memories :)), but no, it must have been someone else, as I've never lived in Dallas. But, that's hardly a humiliating experience - what a wonderful thing you did to save those ducks. We sometimes have to help herd ducks and/or turtles across the road near my house here in Florida, but I can't say I've ever actually gone in the water to save any . . . then again, we do have those pesky alligators to contend with.

Hi Anne!

Well I wonder who that could have been; I could have sworn they said "Anne White" but maybe not; As a matter of fact, I was at the Cheesecake Factory yesterday watching the horse race and struck up a conversation with a woman who grew up in Tampa; We were debating which was worse; Her alligator in Florida that ate her dog when she was little, or the snakes and snapping turtles in my lake that eat the legs off my baby ducks. We determined it a draw and decided we both needed therapy and more education on "nature and the food chain"; Great to hear from you!

Bill- Yep; We can stalk anybody; nice plantation shutters, by the way; I've tried to buy a house down the street from you on the creek for years but finally got forced to a lake in Frisco, aka southern Oklahoma, according to my friends;

And my horse did NOT come in last; He was pulled up to prevent injury...aka; jockey had his money on the long shot..... no triple crown winner this year; was hoping for a cinderella story.. maybe he shoud take up tennis in between his gigantic stud fees....

Bill, the proverbial saying. The check is in the mail. If there is a class picture are you still quick enough to run to the other side. After all we are 25 years older. I would love to see it though.

Hey, everybody --

Sam Esquivel and Kirsten Robinson and Catherine Schmid persuaded me to come. Is there any secret meaning in having our first event at Fatso's? Couldn't you have found a "Balding" or "Graying" or "Wrinkling" for the next day?

I'm living in Austin now, married for elevenish years to Dan Young, whom I met in graduate school in English at the University of California, Irvine. I taught briefly at Harvard, and then got a job at Texas Lutheran University to be closer to my family. But I'm changing careers now -- changing into what I don't quite know, but I'll write when I get work.

Dan is an on-line education architect. We have two children: Hannah (7) and Isaac (5). Like every parent, I believe that they are perfect, except when they're not, which is when they become Dan's children.

I've moved around a fair amount: Houston (Rice -- Jian and I were roommates the first two years); southern California for graduate school (two earthquakes, thank you); Jerusalem (converted to Judaism and studied in a Jewish seminary); Amsterdam (working on research for my PhD), Cambridge, MA (teaching in Harvard's first-year writing program), and now Austin, where most of my family has moved. I *still* don't like the heat . . . .

Looking forward to seeing you all!

Hey, Carrie, welcome to the tribe. That makes like 4 Jews in our class. Any other takers?

Kirsten said...

Julie & Carrie -- this hardly counts as full membership, but my husband is Jewish, we were married by a rabbi, and we celebrate Passover and Hannukah (in addition to Christmas).

Fern -- Sorry for the delay in replying. I remember you from band. I was actually a flag too sophomore year. I never did understand why Uncle Tony chose people who weren't coordinated enough to march and play at the same time to be flags. It sure stuck out a lot more when we messed up. At least I got out of flags while we still had regular band uniforms and not the shorts. Those uniforms were hot (in the temperature sense) but at least they covered one's thighs. And you could hide a lot of stuff in the Q-tip hats.

Julie Jacobson said...

Kirsten, I'd say that qualifies you for a temporary pass. Andie, we know the Jews own Hollywood, but we'll need some better credentials.

For the Harmony Hills and Eisenhower alumni please go to the photo album section. For your viewing pleasure I have posted a photo of the infamous Mr.Caraway waving his arms in his ugly-ass jacket. For those who remember, these rare bouts would be accompanied by him shouting "Captain Caraway!" Why have I held onto the photo? Can't really say. Who took the photo? Doug Collins, of course.
The other is of Mrs. Crozier's 5th grade class. Since she was mentioned earlier in the postings I thought I would refresh everyone's memory. Look at the faces on those poor children. Any difficulties any one of us has had in life can, I believe, be traced back to that class. Now I don't want to speak ill of those who have passed before us, but that lady was bat-shit crazy. Don't let the lavender dress and the smile fool you. In her heart she had a riding crop and wore jack-boots. She locked Curtis Classen in the closet once. While he was in there he knocked a lunch box off a shelf and broke the glass on the overhead projecter. She went into a tizzy. Started singing the old spiritual "Oh happy day" to herself. No separation between church and State with that lady. She would talk about how we would spend an eternity in hell for our behavior. Scared me to death. I saw her 5 or so years ago in Central Market. I froze. She was in the checkout line. She exhibited that same cold, smug, condescending attitude. If I hadn't still been scared of her I would have gone up to her and told her off.
Anyways, Leslie Cobb, great pony-tails! Those were the days when you and Tim Howard were the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie of the school. Helen Lopez...great pants, they are back in style! Whatever happen to Bill Maxwell?
Hey, all you Coker people, go ahead and have your little footrace, 'cause there is no way any one of you could have beaten Jeff Pebbles in his prime. No way.
As for me, I've had a varied career path. A tour in the Air Force, the mutual fund industry, carpenter, etc. B.A in History, Masters in Public Administration. I now teach Physics at Fox Tech H.S. here in S.A. What a sweet gig. I can't believe they pay me for it and give me all major holidays, spring break, and summers off. Sure, today's kids are dumb as rocks, but even rocks need school.
Finally, get this. My wife and I are expecting our 1st child. Oh, I'm sorry, make that our 1st 2 children!!! Gotta love modern science. (You want me to what into a cup? By myself? At 7 a.m in the morning? And I pay you!?)

And I'm calling everyone else crazy

Kirsten - No problem...OMG I forgot to mention you and Natalie Eck (is that right?) The first flag uniforms were of course the band uniform itself. Then, the 2nd year was a drill team shirt, black gym shorts, a red cummerbund from the band outfits and L'egg suntan hose with cheap white tennis shoes that Angel Baby and Tony picked out since there was no $$ in the budget...I am sorry did we go to Churchill?? Anyway, they got cute uniforms when I left band my senior year. Great to hear from you and will look forward to seeing you at the reunion and catching up...such an exciting life!
Scott, Ms. Crozier (Annie), God Bless her soul, was my cousin but whoa you hit the nail on the head. That woman pushed my then fiance now husband out of the way at my fathers funeral to just get to me. And, it wasn't a nice push either. She was all about hell and damnation! SCARY! Great stories you shared. Congrats to you and your wife. - Fern (Hime) VanSickle

Hey Scott,
It's Amie (Fahel) Jurica. Good to hear from you and that you are doing well. Congratulations to you and your wife - twins - wow!

Remember the days at the Cabana Club swimming pool? I always thought you were "so cool" riding your bike to the pool. We lived on Patricia and you lived on Raindrop, wasn't it? My sister Jenni was friends with your sister Leslie. How is she? And your older brother Mike...I remember him. Our moms were friends, too.

Sounds like you've had a varied career path...great to hear you ended up in education. I just finished 20 years of teaching, but not highschool...the little ones. Kids must lose brain cells as they get older because some of my third graders know more than me!

Scott Combs said...

Amie,

Great to hear from you. The Cabana Club was the greatest place to be during the summer, from open to close, every day. Lots of memories. I hope I looked cool on my bike, especially since I had to pedal up the big hill on Fantasia just to get to the pool. If gas prices get any higher I'm going to dust it off and start riding it to work.
I tease about my student's intelligence. But the lack of parental involvement and the invention of the cell phone and Ipod have made teaching difficult. Remember, I'm also in SAISD which has it's own unique issues.
My brothers Mike and Steve are going to their Churchill '78 reunion the same weekend as ours. They said Ramsey was going to be there. Leslie has a daughter, is married, and is in Atlanta.
You mentioned your sister Jenny, it reminds me of some of my greatest childhood memories, specifically, when my sister would have Jenny, Smokey Pittman, Vinetta Cobb, Holly Ford, and the other Churchill '81 hotties over for a slumber party. Good times. My first exposure to "cougars".
I have fond memories of your mom and dad, they were both so nice. I remember the time your dad got a fishhook caught in his lip on one of our brother's scouting trips. It didn't seem to bother him but I couldn't help but stare because part of the worm was still on the hook.
Looking forward to seeing you,

Hey, Scott and Amie and other Harmony Hills alums --

I have nightmares about Mrs. Crozier, and I wasn't even in her class (I was in Miss Grant's/Mrs. Cherry's fifth grade class). What I remember best is Mrs. Fuchs' second grade class -- two traumatic moments. I was really proud of my reading skills and walked up to her on the first day of class and said "Good morning, Mrs. F*ucks." (She pronounced it "Fox") That really got us off on the right foot -- I think she thought it was intentional -- and it really wasn't, I promise! It was a different age.

The other was on election day in 1972. Mrs. Fuchs asked whose parents were voting for Nixon. And then she asked whose parents were voting for McGovern, and I raised my lonely little hand. The other kids actually avoided me at recess. I've only recovered from the trauma because history proved me right!!!! (OK, it proved my parents right.)

I've grown kind of fond of Mr. Caraway in retrospect. He smelled funny, it's true, but he kept kids awake during algebra, which is an accomplishment. What I still haven't come to terms with, though, is the Texas history class we all had to take in eighth grade. Mrs. Bush at Eisenhower took points off if you outlined the rivers of Texas in aquamarine instead of blue. . . .

Julie, Jerry Cohen was one of the tribe -- has anybody heard from him recently? What about Ben whose last name I've forgotten (Steiner?) who went to Brown with Kirsten and became orthodox? And Scott Margolis?

cfa

Kirsten said...

Carrie, you are thinking of Ben Ohlstein. He actually went to Penn, not Brown. We got together for a cheesesteak once when I was there with the Brown Band for a football game, but I haven't been in touch with him since. I think he went to medical school.

Sarah Colvin said...

Actually Carrie, it was 7th grade Texas history; 8th grade I had Mr. Gillespie for the first half of American History (2nd half ninth grade)- the man with big time short man's complex (for which I had to write a paper on the origin of "bless you" when I blessed him after he sneezed. Kirsten, Brenda and I just recently pulled out of the cobwebs the 8th grade Salem witch project, and Rob Galbreath and Jerry Cohen did some other project I found out at lunch on Friday. I think I remember hearing Jerry went to Tulane- true?

Captain Carraway knew exactly what he was doing. He was never going to be "normal", but we weren't going to hate him and he was going to teach us--for middle school, that is an accomplishment. Now that mine are in high school, I have new found respect for teachers, but particularly teachers of middle school.

There was another of the "tribe" too, I think played bassoon, dark curly hair, racking my brain, but can't remember his name, but he is in a picture I have from Mr. Perry's physics class. (I took a few right before I left.)
see ya!

I remember Mr. Gillespie from History...He made me stand up during his class because I yawned
while he was droning on about soemething, said I couldn't sleep if I was standing up. What a jerk.
Mr. Landry was the sub to have...
all you had to do was start talking
about Indians and you never got
around to the assignments!

Julie Jacobson said...

Ah, Mr. Gillespie--Napolean complex for sure. He gave me a progress report (or whatever you called those things) on my very first day of class. I believe Mike Martin had the same experience.

Gillespie must've been jealous since the other history teacher was that hot coach.

Hi.. Kerry (Rosenstein) McMillan here...it has been so fun reading all these posts from you guys!! I can't believe the memories you all have! I must have been truely boring in those days...I'm still in SA.. graduated from Texas A&M-WHOOP! then came back home. My degree was an Exercise Technology degree,I think they now call it Kinesiology, but I never used it. I went to work at USAA.. was there for 14yrs, I met my husband there we will have our 10yr annv this yr. I quit USAA after having my 1st was born. I have 2 girls 7 and 4yrs and I stay home with them. I had lunch w/Mardi Sherman Smith last month when she told me about the reunion.. I thought didn't they just have one? That was already 5yrs ago! I can't believe how fast the time goes! It's so wild to see all you w/grown kids when I'm just starting out! I don't keep in touch w/too many from our class..I touch base w/Lisa Rowan Petri every now and then..see her at HEB sometimes.. I don't think she will make it. I see Karen Heiser Wynn ('84)? at the gym.. I ran into Trish Deberry last year at an event, played couples bunco a few times w/Mitch Huffman. Saw Sandy Hurta(is that correct?) at the soccer field a few weeks ago..I told her about the reunion but not sure if she's coming.. used to see her, Melanie Felder and a few others at USAA. Michelle Uretsky used to be there too! What happened to Ted Toulette? Sad to see those who have passed. I too remember crazy Kelly Sawyer how she saved me one time from being a road rage victim on 281 Has anyone heard from Heather Johnson, Missy Horne, Michelle Weyman- she used to work at my dog's vet. What about Kathy Lammers, I used to see her up at A&M.. Julie J.. was it you who brought up Joanne Schwartz? where is she.. I remember we were best friends at Larkspur elem, any other Larkspur alum out there?
Bill .. I see that Mardi hasn't paid, they were going to be out of town but things changed.. I'll get after her... Look forward to Reunion weekend! Thanks Bill and Julie J and others.. for putting this together!

Hey, Kerry! You were NOT best friends with Joann Schwartz at Larkspur ... I was! I was trying to track down my old Larkspur class photos but I can't find them.

Leah Silen (captain of the patrols), Phillip Wilson...where are you guys?

I believe Joann got a phd in psych and may be living in Missouri? Haven't heard from her since H.S.

Looking forward to seeing you.

So Kirsten, did you find our Salem witch project tape? I'd love to hear it again...although doubtful it's still playable. I'm trying to recall exactly what "the scream" was for and what it sounded like.

As for Jewish members of the community, does anyone remember David Klein/Kline? He was my 7th or 8th grade crush at Eisenhower, but then he moved away one summer. He was in physical science class with me. Does anyone remember the physical science teacher's name? Was it Mr. Perry? The story people told about him was that once he wore mirrors on his shoes to look up girls' skirts. I just remember the horrible questions we had to do at the end of every chapter--there were about 50 of them every time! I also remember he dropped a book on someone's desk when they fell asleep in class.

Mr. Gillespie.....yes, he was an odd one. I don't remember getting in trouble with him, but I remember Catherine Schmid had issues with him. I think he put his hand on her shoulder one time--creepy. He used to call everyone "Darling" too. Anybody remember Mr. Rigby, the biology teacher at Churchill? He was sexist too.

I moved to Eisenhower right before 7th grade. The whole middle school experience was quite a shock after coming from a school system where 6th grade was still in elementary. I had to learn lockers, changing classes, rotating schedules daily, all without the orientation that 6th graders got to help them "transition." And we had a different lunch period every day depending on what your 4th period class was. Yikes! Ah yes, Mr. Caraway....he did smell funny, didn't he? But I guess he did a good job--I still use algebra occasionally at work! Does anyone remember Mr. Cochran (7th) and Mrs. Luke (8th)? Both were good English teachers. I still thank Mr. Cochran for teaching me all that there grammar real good. No seriously, he really did teach excellent grammar. I am grateful for that, especially when I was teaching and had to grade some awful papers, at the college level!

Carrie, I'm glad you're coming! I know we saw each other a few years ago, but it will be nice to catch up! And is Catherine coming for sure?

Kathryn Emmons, here, IT was actually Hayes at Harmony Hills. I went by Harmony Hills the other day MAN has it changed! They have REALLY COOL playground equipment now and AND portables, hard to believe that school looked so huge in our younger years. I took some pictures and will try and post them somewhere if I can figure out all this high tech stuff. It's fun reading every one's posts, what great memories everyone has. Scott, I posted a comment a few weeks ago about Mrs. Croshier, she was actually at my house talking to my Mom one afternoon after school one day, I still haven't recovered from it.... total trauma! I just knew it would get out that her and my mother were actually friends. They both had an interest in antiques.

I lived off Destiny and drove through the old neighborhood last week. Say Jeff Pebbles old house, Jason Weatherman's Leslie Cobb's, Leslie Salazar, Deanna Bjork's, Stoney Tayler (sp) Neil McMaster's, Paul Nelson, and few others that escape me now. I remember riding my bike up to the Cabana Club as well, man those up hill streets...I wouldn't even attempt it now! Anyone remember the great Labor Day festivities at the Cabana Club before school started ever year, the tennis tournaments ( that Pebbles always won...:( ) AAAHH life was so easy back then! Looking forward to seeing everyone in a couple of weeks!

Hey Fern...I guess it's time to make our dinner reservations with Bradley....Thursday might be better, you planning on the happy hour Friday? IF not Friday works for me too, whatever easier on you, you have the little one....I don;t see my daughter anymore...I think she still gets her mail her! HA!

Mr. Selgelid (sp) was the wierd 7th or 8th grade science teacher. John Walls, Mahn Mackey and I had him. I remember we had to keep journals or something and you got counted off if it wasn't neat. That where I learnd to write really small. I still write small to this day because of that a**hole.
The only teachers that i rmember from high scoll are Ms. Hill- because I told her my nickname was Tex, so for the first few weeks of school she called me Tex, and Mrs Kimble 'cause she was awesome and Dotty Burns (Spanish) 'cause she was sooo big.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for correction, Mike. How could I get Mr. Selgelid and Mr. Perry mixed up?! Especially since Mr. Perry and Blunderphysics have been mentioned before in the blog.

Brenda - I remember those Physical Science questions - HDLs (home, desk and lab) - they were awful! And, Julie J, you're right, everyone loved the coach who taught history next to Mr. Gillespie's class. Mr. Gillespie had a lot of strange rules, as I remember.

Julie Reeves - were you able to reach Lisa Kottler? I haven't heard back yet.

Julie Jacobson said...

Mr. Selgelid -- Mike I think you were in my class? We used to set the desks on fire, drawing elaborate finger paintings with that flammable stuff so we could watch the flames race.

Isn't Selgelid the one who reportedly wore shiny shoes so he could look up girls' skirts?

I did well in that class because I structured my lab reports so that all the text was both left- and right-justified. Now that's not easy to do sans computer.

I will remind every one that I did win first place in the science fair every year. Yeah, see where good penmanship gets you!

Sarah Colvin said...

Selgelid-- rumored man of the mirrored shoes (and of previous years 6 pack in the little fridge, which I tend to believe given the nose with the small visible capillaries that I now associate with alcoholism). Grades were supposedly attributed to neatness, but also had some correlation to chest size, so that no matter how neat a guy's paper was he would not score higher than a B and those of us girls challenged in that department also had to just decide that middle school grades did not matter....
Kuddos for the Science Fairs Julie, Bill Nye would agree that neatness does matter!!! (but do you remember the topics....)

Thanks Mike I had been trying to remember that man's name for some time.

The screams on the Salem Witch Project tape were when the witches were being thrown into the water. We did some weird-ass scream followed by a splash from a fist in water in a mixing bowl. That's ALL that I remember about the tape.

Cochran retired with a great write up in the throw paper, my mom cut out and mailed to me. Who knew that English had a subjective tense? pretty much most of American is the answer to that one.

how 'bout Bad Breath Briggs of 6th grade math and Mrs. Mac [ ]of 9th grade geometry? Mrs. Hilholzer's English assignment of comparing Herman Hesse's Siddhartha and Ecclesiastes (all because her husband was in bible college...)

I'll have to get out my albums.. there somewhere around her cause my girls have looked at them. I remember patrol days too w/Leah.. I vividly remember one morning on that back street we were all on that corner just grossing out over a dead bullfrog in the middle of the road.. I just remember how huge it was! I think Leah may be here in SA.. not for sure. Looking forward to seeing you too!

I had Bradford for 8th grade history...but I do remember the good looking science teacher. He was tall and very blond. He taught at Ike for one year and then left to join the Navy. What is his name? Julie Jacobson...I believe that we had english our 6th or 7th grade year with Ms. Mosley. There was a girl there that taught us how to sign our alphabets (Lelani)and she would shoot messages across to me, but I couldn't keep up because she was so fast. Does anyone remember those embarrasing gym moments at Ike when we had those ugly green and white one piece gym suits? Learning aerobics with the PE Teacher (can't remember name) and then putting on a show for our parents, but we still had to wear those riduculous outfits. And, the humiliation of having to change in the locker room and shower, etc...ugh!! I really disliked those years! Fern (Hime VanSickle)

Kirsten said...

I remember Mr. Selgelid's class. I set my desk on fire once, too, but it was an accident, I swear. I remember the shiny shoes rumor and the red nose too....

Brenda, how could you confuse him with Mr. Perry, who was unusual in his own way but certainly not creepy.

Why does it seem like our most vivid memories are from middle school?

Fern,
I remember those gym suits like it was yesterday! One piece cotton, green on the bottom, green and white stripes on the top, (horizontal stripes, right!?)sleeveless, zipped up the front...horrible! My daughter (8th grade) can't believe we would wear something like that when I describe it to her...these days they are issued Soffe shorts and t-shirts for athletics...AND, the school launders them for the girls! And having to change in front of everyone and shower...let's not even go there! :)

Kerry,
If I remember right, my brother ('78) graduated with Mike Wynn, and my sister ('81) graduated with David. David was the red head. I can't remember the other one's name... Their mom Viggie (sp?) and my mom have been friends for years and years. I'll have to ask her the birth order of the Wynn boys!

While we're on the topic of school memories, anyone remember the driver's ed teacher at Churchill, Mr. Brandt? I don't remember what else he taught, but I do remember all the girls swooning over him during driver's ed! (Of course, my eyes were focusd solely on the road!)

Oh I remember those horrible days of PE and the outfits, wow so embarassing! I also remember running in the locker room and jumping on those red benches, only to mis judge the distance one day and smashing the @#$% out of my shin, I still have a dent in that shin.
I also remember getting kicked off the basketball team ( as a "trainer") because the coach ( I forget her name) said I was rude to another teams's coach, to this day that bugs me, I can't for the life on me think of what I did to piss that lady off. There are so many crazy memories from high school. My first car accident occurred in front of the school! I was trying to find a better song on my car radio when I rear ended the car in front of me! I was in my dad's Pontiac Volare. What a piece of crap car. It always made some kind of rattling sound under the hood. I actually totalled it later when I was coming home from my then boyfriend Darryl's house. At another time I had a dark blue Mustang that would always pour water on my foot when I made right turns! Don't know what the deal was with that! Anyway, does anyone remember Gary Delaune day?...when everyone would dress up like him with bright pants and a bright large plaid jacket! How weird. What about Mr. Glaspy (not sure of the spelling) who would walk around the bus stop with his pants pulled up to his chest! I don't even know what he taught at school. But man, what a dork he was! Does anyone remember the student smoking area outside the boys gym??!!! I wasn't a smoker but gosh, I can't believe there was actually a smoking area in school! Now a days there are some restaurants people can't even smoke in. How things have changed. Does anyone remember Mrs. Jungerman (Biology)? She would give us some sort of animal to dissect or experiment to do and then leave the room. I think the fetal pig was the most disgusting thing ever! For some reason, I thought we had to pull off all the skin before making an incision. How gross! When we were finished with the pig, for some reason I threw ours out the window to the courtyard down below! Why? Anyway, Tim Aschoff was my partner in Biology, so he had to do most everything, the pig, the earth worm, the frog. I remember doing an experiment with a large battery, a black wire, a red wire and a light bulb. We were suppossed to connect all together and make the light go on. For some stupid reason, I took the wires connected to the battery and touched it to Tim's arm! How dumb was that! You guessed it, it hurt him! Poor Tim, can you ever forgive me? Where are you now? You're probably doing great because you were such a brain in school! Karen Bailey Watson

Scott Combs said...

Mr. Glaspy was a sophomore algebra teacher. He drove a crappy old VW Bus that had a sink and stove in it. I think he lived in it in the faculty lot. He did rock the high waistline though. The horn-rimmed glasses were a nice touch. Bobby Vallois ("vow-wow'), Suzanne Smith and I all bombed his class. What is it with me and math teachers?
Note on the smoking area. Remember you had to have that red laminated pass to get in. Parents had to give permission. What kind of parenting is that? "Mom, Dad...can you sign this form so I can smoke cigarettes before, during, and after school with my friends whose parents also don't give a shit about them?" That was a rough crowd in there too. Walking by that chain-link fence to the Vocational Building was a little like Jodie Foster going to visit Hannibal Lechter.

Ok, I had a smoking permit, my mom actually bought my smokes for me. Go figure as strict as my parents were. I had that asshole Mr. Glaspy for algebra and all he did was walk up and down the aisles playing pocket pool. He was definitely a dork!!! I remember having biology in 9th grade, Kenny Linton and I shared a table and would shoot paper balls into the ceiling. We had Mr. Rigby. I was in ROTC before it got "cool", but I got out of a lot of classes for ROTC stuff. Not such a bad deal.

Wow, I know...the smoking area...a few people I know did smoke..but I would not even think about letting my son hang out in that area!! I had biology with a teacher that was only there for one year...we use to go on and on singing the old gum commercial song...we didn't know, the pig was loaded...cause everytime you cut in to that things formaldehyde would shot out of it! Disgusting! And Karen, my old Cougar did the same thing...the air duct would get clogged up in those old cars. Fern (Hime) VanSickle

Jill, I'm guessing your book doesn't sell too well in book stores.

I can see it now ... "Price check on STD Book?..."

Hi Karen,

I remember like it was yesterday the pig flying out the window, just couldn't place who it was and I can't remember if I was in the class with you or outside while it happened, but I do remember it, in fact I told that story to my daughter and some of her friends a few years ago when they had to "perform the unthinkable" on their pigs. I also remember getting to class a little early before exams and trying to write notes on the black top tables, I put more time into trying to figure out how to cheat on a biology test than just studying for the damn test... So strange what sticks with you after all this time.

Any one remember Mr. Hicks,( he drove a Porsche ) and being in the Latin Club Lord that was a disaster! Latin screwed me up so bad, my mother made me take it, All I got out of that class was learning how to stick gummy bears and pencils on/in the ceiling ... I wanted to take Spanish I remember her saying why in the hell would you need to speak Spanish! Man I wish everyday I could speak Spanish or at least understand it.

Anyone remember Mrs. Hall ( I think that was her name, History teacher wore her hair back in a bun all the time, really nice lady, she was so nice she called me during summer to let me know I actually passed her class! I guess it was so close, she thought she'd give me a break so I could enjoy my summer...needless to say I was a horrible student, if my daughter tried even a fraction of what I did, she'd be grounded until she was 30!

I remember locking our Graphic Arts Teacher in the paper closet so Mitch Walker, William White and some others could go out and have a smoke on the days he had us in "lock down" usually a deserving "lock down" that was a three hour class and those guys had to have a smoke so we'd lock him in there, they run and smoke and we'd let him out, only to find him, eating his lunch or reading a magazine, I guess he got used to it, and appreciated the quiet time...we'd be sent to juvenile detention if we tried that stuff these days..

Hey, that's why it's on amazon.com, AND why the main title is Seductive Delusions in large print, and the subtitle (how everyday people catch stds) is in small print; check out the front cover on amazon- gotta love the bondage implied with the tie around the high heels...J

Kathryn - You wrong ol' Bob Hicks! He could be tough in class but he was very cool when we went off to state and national Latin competitions. His only real rule was not to get caught doing anything embarrasing to the school. This meant that we discretely drank our rum & cokes out of the can and when we played lightsabers with the flourescent lights, we cleaned up the mess before the janitors spotted it.

Regarding Mr. Hicks..what I meant to say was he was GREAT teacher, and I thought he was very cool ( the whole Porsche thing and his (at that time girlfriend stories) but I SUCKED at Latin, it wasn't him, I was just dumb as a rock and couldn't catch on. He was really very nice to me, tried his best to help, but, again, it's hard to get through to a rock...

Beth Malloy,
Yes I remember! Remember you went to the Senior prom on a blind date? Then we found out later he was MARRIED! But boy did we have fun that night. I still have the pictures somewhere. Patty
